TWENTY POLICE RAID CLUB AFTER 20 policemen had raided the Catisfield Country Club. Cafisfield, Fareham, on Tuesday the proprietor and 62 persons in the club were summoned. The Fareham Police Station " Black Maria " and police care worked a shuttle service, bringing the defendants from the Club to the Police Station a distance of two miles. A special sitting of Fareham Magistrates' Court lasted from about 11 p.m. until 1230 a.m. The raid was led by Chief Inspector Richard Whitehead. who gave evidence in court. Chief Superintendent George Hatcher conducted the case. Defendants included men and woman from Fareham. Gosport. Portsmouth, Southampton, and visitors to the district from Salisbury. Stockport, Watford, and Wolverhampton. They were bailed to appear on July 28. The Magistrate was Mrs. B. H. Neste, who was fetched from bet home at Wallington. Fareham. Among the defendants was Harold Dawkins, of 61, Southampton Road, Fareham, the local Registrar of Births and Deaths. Charles Henry Downes (451 club proprietor of the Catisfleld Country Club, C,atisfleld, Fareham, was summoned for keeping a common gaming house.
