27 Feb 1886 Hamp Advertiser Petty Sessions, Tuesday.— Before Mr. Frederick Stapleton-Bretherton (chairman), Mr. C. E. Radclyffe, and Major Boyd. The Contagious Diseases (Animals) act.— Mr. Owen Bevis, of Catisfield. Fareham, was charged by the police with having, on the 28th ult. unlawfully caused eleven sheep affected with sheep scab to be driven along the highway known as Catisfield-road— Mr. George Feltham appeared for the defendant— The disease existed on Catisfield Farm. The defendant's father (the occupier) reported it, and notice, under the Contagious Diseases Animals Act, 1878. was given that the sheep were not to be removed, not- withstanding which the defendant employed a man named Bown to drive those, the subject of the charge, to Gosport and assisted to get them out of the field in which they were. The defendant directed the man which roads to take, and told him what to say if anyone asked him to whom they belonged.— The defendant was convicted in the penalty of £4, and £1 17s costs, or four- teen days' imprisonmentin default— Mr. George Bevis, ot Catisfield Farm, was charged by the police with having, on the Ist inst. caused a number of sheep, suspected of being affected with sheep scab, to be driven along the highway known as West-street, Fareham.— On the morning of the day in question Supt. Kinshott saw the sheep being driven into the market. He ascertained to whom they belonged, and had then turned back. He spoke to the defendant about it, and told him people were complaining of his conduct The Superintendent later in the day visited the defendant's farm, and found that the sheep had been " run in " with others.— The de- fendant was further charged with having, on the Bth inst., caused fifteen sheep suspected of being affected with the sheep scab to be carried along a highway known as the Fareham-road.in the parish of Wymering. The sheep were intercepted by the police at Cosham, whither the defendant had employed a man, named Joyce, to convey them in a wagon.— The defendant was convicted of each offence— for the former in the penalty of £7 10s, and £1 17s costs, and for the latter in the penalty of £3 15s, and 13s, costs, or fourteen days' im- prisonment for each offence in default— Mr. George Feltham appeared for the defendant
